Request Copies by Mail

To view criminal cases and get copies of documents, go to:

  • Criminal Division: 400 County Center, Redwood City (Hall of Justice, 4th floor)
  • Criminal Clerk's Office: 1050 Mission Road, South San Francisco

You can also ask for copies by mail by sending your request to:

San Mateo Superior Court
Criminal Division
400 County Center, 4th Floor
Redwood City, California 94063
Phone: (650) 261-5200

In your request, include:

  • Case Number
  • Defendant's Name
  • Approximate date the document was filed (or a description of the document)
  • Self-addressed, postage-paid envelope
  • Appropriate fee

If you don't have the case number, you may search Public Records Index. The Criminal Division does not research files.

There is a copy fee of $0.50 per side. There is an extra charge of $40.00 for certified copies.

If paying by check, make it payable to "Superior Court." If you are unsure of how many pages the document contains, write, "Not to Exceed $60.00" in the memo section of the check. We will fill in the amount and give you a receipt showing you the amount charged. If you are asking for a large document or several certified copies, make sure your "Not to Exceed" amount will cover those fees. Once we receive your request, we will reply within 21 days.

Under Government Code §70633(b) and §70631, as of January 1, 2020, copying fees apply to all public agencies.
